Sections of a Paper: Structure of a Scientific Paper.
Essays don't have a table of contents. Reports are divided into headed and numbered sections and sometimes sub-sections, using the IMRaD format(see below). Essays are not divided into sections but you may have separate headed appendices. Reports often originate from outside academic subjects and are typically used in the world of work.
Sometimes the discussion section is followed by a short conclusion section, but often the conclusions are part of the discussion section. At the end of the paper is the references section, which lists details of the research papers, books, reports and other sources that have been cited in the study, so that readers can find those sources to read for themselves.
